Renno Veinthal
Renno Veinthal, PhD, is the Deputy Secretary General for Research, Development, Higher and Vocational Education Policy at the Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia. He holds a doctoral degree in engineering sciences. Before joining public service, he was a professor at Tallinn University of Technology, where he led the Department of Materials Engineering and served as Vice-Rector for Research from 2015 to 2020.
He is a strong advocate for lifelong learning, scientific excellence, innovation, and the societal impact of research. He has played a key role in drafting Estonia’s new RDI Act, aligning research and development policy with broader economic and social challenges.
He is actively engaged in advancing Estonia’s role in European and international research and education cooperation frameworks. Renno Veinthal is known for promoting evidence-based policymaking and fostering meaningful collaboration between academia, industry, and society.
